FAQ

Are you offering sessions in person?

I am only offering virtual sessions. In my experience, most clients enjoy the convenience of not having to travel, find childcare, or take extra time to allow before and after the appointment.

Virtual therapy appointments allow working clients to have sessions during their lunch hour. I can help you find solutions to finding a private place to talk and having a stable WiFi connection.

How long are the sessions?
Generally, 40-55 minutes.
Do you take insurance?
I am in-network with several NY insurance panels. For clients with out-of-network benefits, I can provide superbills for reimbursement by their commercial insurance company.
What is your cancellation policy?
Whenever possible, please give 12-24 hours notice for cancellations. Same-day cancellations (not due to emergencies) or no-shows may accrue a $50 cancellation fee.
What do I do to get started?

I offer a 20-minute complimentary phone or virtual consultation to decide if we can begin working together.

Once we choose to start working, I will email a link to complete online financial forms, consents, and intake forms, which take approximately 5-15 minutes to complete. Once received, we can schedule our 60-minute initial appointment.

What age ranges do you work with?
I work with adults and teens 12 and over.
What modalities do you use?
My primary modalities are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness Training. I also have training in Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Coping Skills Training, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-informed Care.
I have worked with a therapist who also utilized CBT and took a skills-based approach to homework assignments. Do you work in this way?
Absolutely. Some clients respond best to this type of skills-based CBT. Others prefer a conversational style and don’t like writing or journaling. I tailor my approach to what will help you best.
I don’t always have a babysitter. Can I have my young child in the room for virtual sessions?
Yes, with the understanding that if you want to talk about something very personal and private, you may want to be out of earshot of your toddler or older child.
Do I have to commit to therapy for a certain length of time?

Not at all. Sometimes, I commit to several sessions as part of my work with someone. It depends on your individual goals.

We no longer expect clients to stay in therapy for years like in the past. I have had clients set specific goals and choose to end therapy after 2-3 months. I have also had clients remain in treatment for five years continuously with me.

Who is your perfect client?
My perfect client is open to new experiences, self-reflective, willing to learn, and ready to do the work. No previous therapy experience is necessary.
What do you enjoy about being a therapist?
Being a therapist is my passion, and I cannot imagine doing anything else. I love seeing people make new connections and have that “A-HA” moment where it all makes sense. I love seeing people break out of old patterns and begin healing.
Do I have to lie on a couch?
Yes, only if you want to! I’ve held virtual sessions with clients in a parked car, outdoors, in their bed, office, or conference room. I usually sit at my desk in my comfy chair. You are welcome to hold your virtual session where you are most comfortable if you have a private space to talk.
Am I allowed to ask personal questions?
Yes. I may even answer.
Should I wear waterproof mascara?
Hmmm. Yes, but I will not judge you if your mascara and make-up run during the session. It happens.
Dogs or Cats?
We are dog people in my family! My dog is known to make appearances on Zoom. My clients’ cats seem to LOVE therapy and always want to visit in sessions. So the answer to “Dogs or Cats?” is YES!
